Sunrise to Sunset at Uluru

The mornings here are crispy cool. Definitely the best part of the day! By 11am it’s stinking hot and you find any means to keep to survive the heat; a pool, shade or in our case air con. The latter being the most popular.  As the sun sets, the pesty flies disappear, which is a welcome relief, the temperature slowly starts to lower, and the night sky lights up.

Today was an extremely long day. We were up early to view the sunrise on Uluru. It was a cloudy morning so we knew it wasn’t going to be a spectacular display however some rays of light did manage to shine through.

In the evening we went to see the installation Fields of Light by British artist Bruce Munro. My first impression was the enormous scale of the installation. It covers an area of 49,000 square metres. That’s seven footy fields!  We wound our way along low lit paths amongst the 50,000 fibre optic stems with the moon and stars above us. It was a magical moment until the stillness of the night and the twinkle of the soft coloured lights was spoilt by a few loud and obnoxious people continually shouting at one another across the field.
