On the Road to the Top End

It’s been a slow and steady drive with some unexpected diversions along the way but we finally, after twelve days, made it to the Top End. On our first night out, our Type Pressure Monitoring System was faulty so we mailed it back to Melbourne, with a return address in Darwin. The next night we had crossed the border into South Australia and our caravan batteries failed. New batteries!  We rerouted our trip and headed to Gawler to have them checked. 36 hours later after loading and testing their capacity, they were found to be faulty.  So we purchased two new batteries and we were back on the road. 

Heading north just south of Kulgera a stone chip, was the catalyst for rerouting our trip yet again and we decided to head directly to Alice Springs to have it repaired. Nearing the outskirts of Alice our UHF aerial snapped and blew away into the long grass. After our windscreen repair, we were back on the Stuart HWY and I declared “We’ve had our three, we should be right now.” And just like that… another stone smacks into the windscreen and this time it’s a double whammy!

We pulled into Barrow Creek which is essentially a roadhouse rest area and a message arrived from our friend in Darwin saying that the parcel (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) had arrived, but as she was not home, her husband asked the Postie to send it back to the GPO because he didn’t recognise the name on the parcel.

Our fear was that it would be sent back to Melbourne so we frantically called Australia Post and after speaking to an operator, the parcel was redirected to Darwin GPO awaiting collection. I will end it here!
