Kimberley Moon- ELQ
For the past three days we have been staying at El Questro. The road in is unmade but well graded. There are some sections that are corrugated and a couple of water crossings. Just before you arrive at El Questro you cross the Pentecost River. A great way to clean the car and van from the wheels down!
The waterhole at ELQ is cold, actually ICY cold. This however did not deter Steve. In fact, he went for several swims over two days. Zebedee Springs by contrast were warm. My kind of temperature, 28- 30 degrees.
The following day Steve trekked to Emma Gorge. This is a two hour hike through some difficult and steep terrain. As my foot is still not healed, I decided to stay at Emma Gorge Homestead and read my book. According to Steve the waterhole was amazing. The largest he’d seen so far. The cliffs that surrounded it towered over it and whilst the waterfall was small, he could imagine it roaring in the wet season.
When you’re in the bush for a while and you stop to listen and observe, you soon realise that nature runs by the clock. Every night at 6.15 pm the cockys would fly across the sky, heading north… somewhere. This was then followed by a chorus of laughs and screeching sounds from a group of birds near our camp and then just as the night set in, the neighing of the horses and the howling of dingoes; a few in the distance but one very close to camp. And with that comes the night time sky. On this particular night Venus was aligned with the Moon. It was absolutely gorgeous.
