G’day

The van’s hitched up and you’re back on the road. You get up to speed and settle in for the journey ahead anticipating all that lies ahead. As you travel south down a long stretch of road, you inevitably encounter fellow travellers, heading north to warmer weather.

A rig is heading towards you and as the driver passes he greets you with a wave as a gesture of solidarity between fellow travellers. Following on behind, another driver passes you and gives you the one finger salute. A few kilometres up the road you encounter the thumb on the wheel and four finger salutation and not long afterwards you get the thumbs up.

From a distance you see a van heading toward you. The opportunity to greet a fellow traveller arises. The timing has to be just right; greet too soon and it won’t be seen, too late and it’s missed altogether.

The encounter is seconds away. The timing was perfect.  Steve gives the one finger salute, I wave both hands. The car speeds passed without response!
