Edith Falls
I had read many reviews stating that some of the sites were poorly designed and were literally short narrow stretches of dirt that you pulled into alongside the road. Some people towing caravans and camper trailers struggled as the bollards restricted the depth of the site and once parked, their front door literally opened onto the road. Fortunately we had booked one of the better sites. We were secluded and back off the road with plenty of space around us and lots of sun to power our solar.
It was so hot on the day we arrived that we literally unhitched and went for a swim. We swam to the falls about 400 metres return and the water was refreshing. The following morning we walked to Sweetwater Pool, an 8.6 km hike through the bush and clambering over rocks. As we arrived, we were greeted by hundreds of bats, flying above us and nesting in the trees. The noise they made was ear piercing. We stopped off at Longpool, a beautiful waterhole surrounded by pandanus, gumtrees and a small escarpment. We also hiked to Upper Pool, it was a hot day and the climb was worth the effort. This swimming hole is a popular spot for families as there are shallow areas for little kids to paddle in.
