Humongous

On our way to the Bungle Bungle we stopped at a rest area overnight. We’d only just set ourselves up for the night when a forty foot palatial apartment on wheels pulls up next to us. This enormous fifth wheeler made our van look like a billy cart. This monstrosity was clearly not big enough because within minutes, at the touch of a button, it started sprouting rooms from the rear and sides. I wanted to sneak a photo but I thought it would be a bit cheeky so if you’re curious to see a pic of this RV, just google Sierra Fifth Wheeler.

Whilst we’re on  the topic about BIG.  We met an elderly couple from Queensland that same night. They were grain farmers and he had only just retired. I asked them how big their property was and she said 4,000 hectares.Thinking I’d misheard, I asked her to repeat the size. “4,000 hectares…about”. I smiled and said my property is 10 by 30…. (pause) metres… (pause) exactly!

Now 4,000 acres might sound large to us city folk but out here, 4,000 acres is the size of a postage stamp compared to most properties. In fact last night we stayed on a station (Larrawa)  that was 450,000 acres. So I was curious to see which station was the largest in Australia. Turns out Anna Creek Station  is the largest station in South Australia, Australia and the WORLD.  5,850,000 acres! Now that’s HUMONGOUS.
