Apsley Falls

The drive from Point Plomer on the Oxley HWY is not a huge distance but it’s slow when towing a van. You really chew through the fuel as you climb up and over the Great Divide. Steve concentrated on navigating the bends and hook turns whilst I gazed out the window in awe. Rolling green hills and valleys followed by dense bushland. It was so picturesque.

We spent two nights at Apsely Falls. This campground is one of the better campgrounds  in NSW. Ten sites, a fire pit and picnic table per site and free firewood.

On both nights we lit a fire and sat there enjoying the still of the night hypnotised by the flames licking and wrapping their tendrils over the timber offcuts.

Within the gorge, there are a number of walks. The  lookouts are strategically placed so you can look at, over and way down deep into the gorge. Amazing!

Late last night a local native animal landed on the roof of our van with a thud. Steve and I froze. Pat, pat, pat as it moved backwards and forwards across the roof of the van and then finally another thud as it jumped from our van and landed on the ground below.

Walcho township is a 20 minute drive away and well worth a visit. The locals were very friendly and welcoming and clearly they are very proud of their town.

Here is a photo I took looking into a pool from a lookout, You can see the reflection of the cliff face. I love this image.
