Walardi- Bungle Bungle

We were not allowed to bring our van into the Bungle Bungle as it’s a twin axle. So we spent three nights at Walardi Campground in our 60 second tent. We could choose any of the thirty vacant sites. We chose this one ’cause no one was camped anywhere near it.

Only after we set up did we read the sign.

Bush Acapella

On our first morning, we woke to a chorus of birds each whistling their own sweet call. All together it was the most harmonious and mellowest awakening I can ever recall. I lay in bed with my eyes closed, floating into some calming trance trying to capture all the different tones when suddenly I jolted upright.

“Squaaaaarrrk, Squaaaaarrrk” screamed the boof head cocky in the tree above us. And so the peaceful tones that resonated through the bush were hijacked by one. Was his intention to sabotage, to bully or was he simply tone deaf?

Nature had created a natural amphitheatre at Cathedral Gorge, whilst Echidna Chasm was the highlight of the Bungle Bungle.
