Alice Springs

So our intention was to leave King’s Canyon and stay at a rest stop rather than drive all the way to Alice Springs in one day, however yesterday after our morning hike my right foot had swollen up like a balloon. I iced it and kept it elevated the whole day. It was no better in the morning and the pain was increasing.  The closest medical was Alice Springs, nearly 600ks away.

I spent the afternoon at Alice Springs hospital and the registrar believed I may have been bitten by something and a possible microbe may be causing an infection.  I’m on antibiotics, antihistamines as well as ibuprofen for the pain.  I am to continue icing it and keep it elevated. No walking for a few days. It seems marginally better today.

What is it with me and traveling. I always seem to end up in a hospital!

I was hoping my foot would be better when I woke up today and was planning on attending the ANZAC Dawn Service on Anzac Hill, but my foot was still swollen and painful to walk on. Just before sunset, Steve drove me to the top of the hill so I could take some pics.

Of all the wreaths this was my fave.

We have decided to stay a few more days in Alice to make sure there aren’t any further issues with my foot. The next hospital is in Katherine and that’s miles away.
